It has served me well, i suppose, but the volume controller recently broke off leaving me unable to change the volume and making the product basically useless :( I am also frustrated by how quickly it "eats" batteries despite my buying rechargeable AAA batteries. Because of the volume issue I now need a replacement and will be buying a SanDisk mp3 player per a friends rave review. I have been using this radio for over a year at the gym. It is also bulky and the reception is not great, although that may be the result of it not having an external antenna.
But again, it is still very easy to come off after it's come off once.I you use the arm band, or aren't to rough, it's a great unit. You can snap it back on (if you can find it) but from then on it comes off even more easily (I ended up ordering replacements from Sony for $5 bucks each ( 5 bucks for ten cent or less piece of plastic, part number 2-583-548-01). I've been through a few of these before I figured out the knob is replaceable. I like the reception on this better than others I've tried. The one problem that I hate is the volume knob can very easily snap off. But I tend to clip mine to a pocket and that's where the volume knob ususally dies.
I think the problem is that the headphone cable or wire shorts out or the connection plug into the radio does not a good connection after a couple of months of jogging. Are there any out there. Maybe they make these things without durability so that consumers have to buy a new one every few months. I could not listen to a signal wandering in and out. However, I just keep swithching to different products and manufacturers hoping there is a durable sports radio out there.
After a while the signal would only come in or out. I have yet to find a sports radio with headphone wires or cables that plug into the radio that is durable enough to last beyond 6 months of daily jogging. Whatever it is, I have yet to find a durable sports radio that works consistently. If one goes out, I never repeat my mistake and buy the same model.I am really looking for a sports radio with a wireless headphone that will not short out. I bought a Sony Sports walkman to listen to the radio while jogging, and it worked fine for a short while, then it started making a poor connection so that I would have to twist the headphone jack while jogging in order to get a consistent signal to listen to.
It is not just this radio. Who knows.
Just try to find an am/fm at Best Buy, WalMart etc. A few new functions and it runs forever on a single AAA battery. Glad that I remembered Amazon. I struggled to find a replacement for a similar model I had for years. This was as close as I could find and it turned out better. You can't, they don't exist.
I am relegated to listening to AM, or throwing the thing away. I live in an urban area with FM radio stations throughout the dial. The selectivity is terrible, however. It was the same deal with most of the stations on the dial - you couldn't get a clear shot at anything. The radio operates fine as far as setting mode, volume and frequency. I spent a long time with the owner's manual to get it right. I wanted to listen to KQED, 88.5 MHz; however it was frequently overpowered by KBAY, 94.5 MHz.
